Toad Thank YOU!!!
As a sponsor, I wish to thank you for endorsing me and our ToAD Team in the 2015 Tour de Cure, which
we like to call the Toad de Cure…. 2015.
Our 7 Member team raised more than $2,000 to defeat the Diabetes, while we enjoyed (aka suffered)
for 100 miles around the famed oval at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Our weekend started at the World Bicycle Relief / SRAM factory open house. We met Juan Pablo Montoya and had him sign the program from the race this year. Zach is a fan of JPM, and was struck by how nice he was. He also was interested to learn that JPM wants to race Cyclocross this fall after IndyCar and we heard about his new mountain bike.
We then had team dinner at Buca di Beppo, where we planned the day and took care of the IMS waiver and track credentials required.
At 5:10, we rose and headed to the track. We all met there and got our timing chips for Colavita Timing and in the chaos joined 1,500 other two wheeled fans. The Indiana Civil War Infantry enactors fired the gun at 8:08 and we were rolling toward 40 laps.
In summary, our Toad Team worked at the front of the lead group and helped to solidify our 4hr goal by taking turns in the wind together. We had crossed 75miles at 2:50”…. We had several Toads begin to succumb to the pace and wind. At 80miles, I had to visit facility and returned to the track. Our General Contender was to be Brent Korte’ from Highland. Brent however was riding without his computer, and was not aware of the distance or pace. He asked me at 65miles “How far have we gone…” when I told him, he was shocked and happy to know we had gone 30% farther than expected. He also noted that we were on a 27mph average vs 25 planned.
Our Team collect Brent on the final lap and pulled him to Start Finish line ahead of all the timed riders. The results are in the picture below, but you can see we have hardware courtesy of the good folks at World Bicycle Relief, Zipp/SRAM and Colavita. “Beast Mode” Brent would finish 1st in Overall, with Joe Switzer 2nd and Rodney Miller 3rd after review. Joe would finish 1st in Cat 4 licensed Riders. Tour de Cure 2015 is in the book. Toads made their first appearance, and it was lasting memory. We like to think it was the “Toad de Cure”… Toad’s slogan is “Racing toward a Cure….” I believe mission was accomplished, but we can still improve in 2016.
Thanks again….
